You’re Not the Problem, Your Workout Plan Is

cream and berry colored graphic with a sticker that says, "Step into your power"

You've tried the plans and routines... but nothing sticks.

And now you're starting to wonder if the problem is you.

First, let me tell you:

There is nothing wrong with you.

And I know some of you are reading this thinking

"Yeah, no. It's definitely me."

Unless you're a client of mine, I don't know your exact situation, but I do know the type of people who seek out self improvement content, and y'all are capable AF.

You've got a lot on your plate.

You're juggling responsibilities, showing up for others, and navigating some really hard shit these past few years. So please, offer yourself some real, honest compassion. Not the “I'll be nice to myself once I get it together" kind, but the kind you'd give a friend who's been through it.

Instead of spiraling into "What's wrong with me?"

Try asking:

  • What's actually been challenging?

  • What kind of support have I been missing?

Here's what l often see:

  • You've been taught to rely on motivation instead of strategy.

  • You've been aiming for perfect, instead of progress.

  • You've been told to follow an exact plan or program, one that doesn't take your actual reality into consideration.

    • Mental health is a real obstacle it's not something you can just willpower your way through.

  • You've internalized failure instead of learning from it.

When we zoom out, it's no wonder you've felt stuck.

You've been given tools that don't match your life, then blamed yourself when they didn't work.

But here's the good news, there is another way. It starts with simple shifts that meet you where you are.

Start with Your Reality

Not your ideal day. Not someone else's plan. Be honest about your current circumstances, and honest about what you can actually shift.

This is about radical acceptance of what's real, and where you're truly willing (and able) to put in the work.

Start where you are, not where you wish you were.

This might look like:

→ Planning two 20-minute walks instead of aiming for five full workouts when your week is packed

→ Prepping just 2 easy meals for the week instead of a full Sunday meal prep you'll never get to

→ Saying, "I'm working on becoming someone who stretches in the morning," instead of forcing a full morning routine you're not ready for

Build in Flexibility

Plans that don't bend, will break.

Life will life, so your strategy has to be flexible.

Missed a workout? Slept through your morning routine? You don't need to "start over." You don't need to make it mean it's not for you. You need a reset button that actually fits your life. Decide what you can do instead, and keep it moving.

This might look like:

→ Swapping a long gym session for 10 minutes of movement at home

→ Ordering a balanced takeout meal instead of spiraling over a missed grocery trip

→ Taking one deep breath and starting your nighttime routine at 9:30 instead of skipping it altogether

And remember, this takes time!

Real, lasting, sustainable behavior change doesn't happen overnight.

It's not supposed to.

You're not behind.

You're not doing it wrong.

You're just in the middle of the process.

Give yourself permission to take the time you need. This is the long game, and you're allowed to grow at your own pace.

So, what would it look like to work with your life, instead of against it?

What's one small shift you can make that honors your reality and builds in flexibility?

Start there.

Start small.

And remind yourself: nothing's wrong with you.

You're just ready for a different way.
