Mid-Year Goal Reflection Questions and Journal Prompts

woman wearing a silver ring writing in a journal on her lap

We’re almost halfway through the year.I know!I don’t know where time went either. As a mom of two, I know summer is about to fly by, too. If this halfway point is making you reflect on your goals, only to realize you’re nowhere close to where you hoped to be, that’s okay!

A failed plan doesn't mean you won't reach your final goal. It means the plan needs adjusting.

Here’s the reflection I like to walk my GSD clients through:

This is how we check in on your year so far and get honest about how you want to end 2026.

Overview:

  • What’s working for you?

  • What’s not working for you?

  • What does the data actually tell us?

  • What’s getting in the way, of reaching your goals?

Mental Contrasting

This is the opposite of vague vision boarding.

It’s an evidence-based way to connect to your future self and get honest about what might block you, so you can plan for it.

Have you been feeling stuck, unmotivated, or like you’re floating through your day?

This kind of reflection is your reset button.

 1. Start with a Check-In

  • What’s something you’re proud of from the past 6 months, big or small?

  • In the past 6 months, where did you feel most aligned?

    • It’s okay if you didn’t feel aligned or don’t see many wins, yet.

  • This reflection is about getting honest.

  • If you don’t like where you’re at, you get to change it!

 2. Practice Radical Acceptance

Get curious and honest about these questions without judgment, just accepting where you are right now.

  • What’s not working right now?

  • Where are you feeling drained, frustrated, or out of alignment?

3. Visualize

  • It’s December 31, 2026.

  • You feel proud.

  • You followed through, took aligned actions, and made progress toward your goal.

  • How has your life improved?

  • What routines have been helpful?

  • How do you feel in your body?

 4. Be Honest

  • What could get in the way of that version of you?

  • What patterns or thoughts are likely to show up?

  • What support or structure would help you to keep going anyway?

 5. Define Alignment

  • What will help you feel aligned, for the next six months?

  • What support, structure, or strategy will help you to follow through, especially when life gets busy?

  • What do you need to feel proud of how you’ve showed up, by the end of the year?

Still feeling overwhelmed?

You don’t have to do this alone.

  • This is what we do in GSD.

  • We reflect, realign, and build habits that actually fit your life.

  • No all-or-nothing.

  • No shame.

  • Just strategy, support, and self-trust.

Sometimes reflecting and getting honest about where we are is hard.

  • We’re not where we thought we’d be.

  • We thought things would look different.

  • So yeah, answering these questions might feel uncomfortable. And that’s okay.

But here’s what matters most:

  • If you don’t like the direction things are heading, you can change it.

  • You have the power to take small, aligned steps that shift the next six months into something you’re proud of.
